Programs include: Museum tours, Whale Anatomy and Ecology, Nature Walks and Scavenger Hunts. Museum staff and students lead a variety of programs and activities encouraging everyone to participate in natural history learning. Programs include art classes for elementary and secondary school students in the JSMAs art studio. The Island Explorer bus stops directly behind the museum daily throughout the summer. The JSMA offers an active program for youth and families. The gift shop offers a wonderful selection of books, gifts, and jewelry for children and adults related to the natural sciences. The Museum is housed in the original headquarters of Acadia National Park, renovated and expanded to provide a unique site for exhibits, programs, and activities. All exhibits are designed and produced by students at College of the Atlantic. Visitors of all ages can touch, smell, listen and create while learning about the natural history of Maine. The Dorr Museum features dioramas of coastal Maine wildlife and a tide pool tank that houses a variety of live sea stars, hermit crabs, snails and other marine creatures. Fun activities include painting demonstrations, participating in setting up the composition, and one-on-one instruction. ![]()
